In Springtime, on Lower Eyre Peninsula in South Australia, the first birds to nest are often the Banded Lapwings. (Vanellus tricolour)
They nest in open paddocks and lay their well-camouflaged eggs in a shallow scrape on the ground.
Their chicks are very hard to spot and super cute! Banded Lapwings eat mainly insects, worms, snails and spiders.
